The power of Thank you
According to statistics, about a quarter of working age people in Finland suffers from a burnout, a condition that develops due to prolonged work stress. Up to 3% of these people have a severe case of burnout consequently leading to a long-term work disability.
A supportive working environment with a healthy spirit can help reducing the risk of a burnout significantly. And it is something we can all contribute to, without much effort and at no cost at all.
Take a moment and think about the last time you cheered up a colleague who looked exhausted? Made a cup of coffee and offered help to a new colleague who has just started working in your team and is too anxious to bother you with questions? How often do we thank our colleagues, service providers, managers, or directors for all the good work they do? It is unfortunately so common to take employees´ success at work for granted, and only point out the mistakes or failures they occasionally may have.
Luckily, here in Etelä-Pohjanmaa, companies are on the right track in recognizing and appreciating their employees´ work. Our Chamber of Commerce was announced to have issued the biggest number of Medals of Merit in year 2023. The award criteria for the various Medals of Merit include length of career, outstanding performance or wanting to reward an employee for other reasons.
Another way to show your appreciation to a person you wish to be noticed, is to vote them as “the most positive Seinäjokinen” (Vuoden Positiivisin Seinäjokinen) – an annual campaign organized by the Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with Epari and Seinäjoen Nuorkauppakamari. The voting is open until the end of November, and anyone is welcome to participate in it. You can find more information about the campaign on our homepage.
Let’s continue appreciating and supporting our colleagues, business partners and managers. A simple “thank you” and “well done!” has much more power than we could imagine.
